We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Technician to join our Engineering Maintenance Department. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the successful candidate will be a strong team worker with excellent communications skills and a continuous improvement mindset.

This role sits in a larger team of both Mechanical and I&E technicians and is expected to take ownership of the mechanical equipment on site to ensure equipment is maintained at its optimum performance.

The successful candidate would be expected to display an aptitude for problem solving in their area of expertise, plus always think of safety first and work in a safe manner.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Support the SHE department to ensure the highest levels of Safety, Health and Environment performance at all times for all maintenance activities on site.
  • Supports the maintenance engineering activity to execute planned maintenances, recover from unplanned stoppages, plus support first up information gathering and problem solving.
  • Investigating Plant issues and taking on a problem-solving approach to find solutions.
  • Supports the Stores Controller to ensure that Inventory is optimized to meet reliability and plant performance.
  • Collaborate within the engineering departments to steer a team of contractors for maintenance and capital project activities during plant outages.
  • Detailed reporting of equipment condition utilising the computerized maintenance management system.

What You Will Bring to Cabot

  • Practical knowledge of maintenance & reliability tools and systems including conditioning monitoring such as ultrasonics, vibration analysis and thermography.
  • Detailed knowledge and hands-on experience with pumps, compressors, pipelines, boilers, vessels and exchangers
  • Practical knowledge of installation techniques such as laser alignment techniques on rotating equipment, flange integrity following gasket replacement and torque standards on pipework and vessels.
  • Knowledge of safe working systems and permits to work, risk assessments, method statements, hot work permits, confined space, stored energy and first line breaks on process pipework.
  • Ability to follow and write procedures to standardise work and continually improve your area of work and responsibility.
  • Support the maintenance planner to develop the weekly and shutdown plans. Take ownership in planning details such as spares, scaffolding and other maintenance resources to execute tasks.

  • Able to manage multiple and sometimes conflicting priorities with sound judgement and logical decision making
  • Ability to remain calm and logical in a crisis

Education/ Experience:

Essential:
       Recognised engineering apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline

Desirable:
       HNC or equivalent

Experience in an engineering maintenance or a reliability role within a large process industry environment
