Your Role at Cabot

Cabot plant in Botlek is part of a global network and produces Carbon Blacks for high performance tires, plastics, and to support the energy transition by producing Battery Materials for electric vehicles. The facility has a General Manager, the leadership team members lead the departments SHE, HRM, Finance, Operations and Quality & Technology.

 

Based on an in-depth knowledge of environmental topics in the chemical industry, the environment & sustainability lead ensures that we (continue to) operate our factory within our license and the applicable laws and regulations. At the same time, the position holder is able to develop strategy for a sustainable future of our factory in terms of energy, air/water emissions and waste.

 

Responsible for drafting, implementing and propagating the plant's environmental policy. Further developing and implementing the Cabot Botlek strategy in the field of sustainability.

 

Hands-on approach that can combine daily practice with a vision/strategy for the future. Know what is important today (reports, measurements, monitoring, stakeholder management) and what will become important tomorrow (legislation, regulations, Cabot objectives, etc.). Know that direct involvement is always necessary on topics that are important, but can also zoom out and keep an overview.

 

First contact person for authorities and for the own organization for environmental and sustainability-related questions. Has interactions with various stakeholders and can switch well in interactions between authorities, (higher) management and the shop floor.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Translating vision and policy into operational implementation and concrete objectives and actions. Actively propagating the vision and creating support.
  • Communicating at all levels within the organization with regard to the environment, so that relevant themes are addressed quickly and adequately, for example by means of toolbox meetings, training courses and written communication.
  • Providing environmental reports to authorities, such as DCMR, CBS, NEa (Dutch Emission Authority), competent authority, Cabot headquarters, etc..
  • Identify, record, investigate, and report undesirable events such as Near Misses and Environmental Non Conformances (ENCs). Introducing corrective actions as needed and proactively monitoring progress.
  • Monitoring and continuous improvement of our SHE management systems such as ISO 14001.
  • Coordinate and conduct audits and self-assessments to ensure compliance.
  • Monitoring the environmental conditions in the preparation and implementation phase of (investment) projects.
  • Applying for environmental permits and implementing permit conditions.
  • Proactively monitoring and guarding: laws and regulations, corporate standards, and location-specific safety and environmental policies.
  • Translating legislation, regulations and corporate policy into location policy and operational implementation with concrete objectives and actions.
  • Drafting, monitoring and maintaining location-specific procedures and work instructions, emergency plans and environment-related documents.
  • Drafting and monitoring of the energy efficiency plan and climate plan.
  • Ensuring waste management in line with applicable legislation and regulations.
  • Conducting tours and audits for environment-related topics.
  • Maintaining and further implementing a sustainability strategy within the organization.
  • Inform, advise and collaborate with senior management. Able to take on a delegated responsibility on behalf of FGM for compliance.

What You Will Bring to Cabot

  • Completed higher professional education or university education (Chemical or Mechanical engineering) with knowledge of or supplemented with Environmental Science (permits, Environmental Management Act)
  • Excellent knowledge of the Dutch language and English language
  • Five years of relevant work experience in the chemical industry
  • Practical knowledge/experience in the chemical industry with environmental reporting, CO2 emission reporting/trading, ISO14001, Environmental Management and Environmental Permits Act, energy efficiency- are a plus
  • Good informal and formal communication skills with government agencies
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
