We are looking for a motivated working student or intern to join our Data Governance team and support the end-to-end management of our enterprise data catalog using Microsoft Purview. This role is ideal for a student interested in data management, governance, and cloud technologies, providing hands-on experience with a modern data governance platform.
• Support the administration and operation of Microsoft Purview, including scanning, classification, and metadata enrichment.
• Execute and monitor data source scanning and automated/manual data classification, applying organizational standards for sensitivity, PII, compliance, etc.
• Assist in building and maintaining data lineage to map the flow and transformation of data across systems.
• Curate and enrich technical and business metadata for structured and unstructured data assets.
• Assist in developing and maintaining the Business Glossary by working with technical and business SMEs, helping ensure consistency in terminology and usage across domains.
• Support Data Classification initiatives, tagging data based on confidentiality, criticality, and compliance (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
• Contribute to Data Quality tracking and help document quality rules and expectations.
• Collaborate on access and role management within Purview to ensure proper data visibility and stewardship.
• Create and maintain documentation of cataloging processes, policies, standards, and user guides.
• Work with data stewards, engineers, and analysts to onboard new datasets and ensure complete metadata.
Education & Background:
• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• A foundational understanding of data governance, metadata, classification, or data catalog tools.
• Interest in cloud platforms (especially Azure) and modern data architecture.
Skills:
• Exposure to or interest in tools like Microsoft Purview, Power BI, Azure Data Lake and Services, or SQL.
• Good documentation and communication skills in English.
• Familiarity with data governance concepts such as metadata management, data classification and sensitivity labeling, lineage tracking, business glossary, data quality, and governance frameworks is a plus.
• Self-driven with a willingness to learn and contribute.
