  • Position Summary

    In close collaboration with our commercial and marketing functions, you gather information from the market to enable product and application development of innovative solutions  in the field of plastics applications and fine particles (carbon black, fumed silica, activated carbon, …).


    Your leadership and input in this area is providing key contributions in defining the strategy of the various plastics segments. You lead the development of new products and applications by engaging a group of specialists and technicians. Your focus is in thermoplastics materials, with a high focus on engineering polymers and high value products, including electrically conductive materials.


    Your broad formulations skills are used to develop customer specific or application driven solutions combining the various key performances required in given applications.

    Job Responsibilities

    • You contribute to the business growth by extending the usage of our product portfolio and by developing new products for high value applications.
    • You are visiting customers and attending market events (seminars, conferences, fairs and exhibitions) to collect market information on general trends and unmet needs from customers.
    • You define new product concepts to deliver innovative solutions to the market and organize the lab work and experimental campaigns required for those new product developments.
    • You coordinate with Sales, Marketing, R&D and Application Development teams the priorities of the developments in your field.
    • You oversee lab testing and analysis supporting existing and new applications. You also organize lab work to support systemic and/or complex product performance issues.  You develop and enforce statistically rigorous applications test capabilities.
    • You provide application expertise to help customer support and service, by helping developing training material and sales tools, by performing competitive product mapping and identifying value capturing/rebranding opportunities.
    • You have continuous contacts with our customers for the joint development of products and are recognized as an expert partner by them.
    • You provide guidance to and motivate a group of technicians and other staff. 


    • Engineering or Master degree or PhD in Chemistry with expertise in Polymers and Carbon Black
    • 5 year experience in R&D, Application Development or in the development of products and formulations of polymers
    • Deep and broad expertise in Plastics applications, spanning across several application and market segments
    • Knowledge and experience of project management
    • Previous management of a team is an advantage
    • Understanding competitive positioning and markets of thermoplastic polymers, engineering plastics and fine particles (Carbon Black, Fumed Silica, Activated Carbons, ...) is an advantage
    • Fluent in English
    • Good knowledge of French is a big advantage

Its 2 production sites in Belgium (Loncin and Pepinster - 140 people) produce a range of plastic pellets "masterbatches" and conductive compounds containing carbon black , additives and thermoplastic resins (polyethylene, polystyrene ...). These products are used in various applications such as automotive, construction, computers, plastic films for agriculture....  Cabot has also an Application Development Center based in Pepinster which is the Center of Excellence in engineering polymers, conductive materials, Carbon Black and Silica for the EMEA region.
