  • Position Summary

    Cabot Barry currently have a vacancy for a highly effective H & S Specialist in their SHEQ Department. As the successful candidate you will provide technical expertise to department and site managers in a wide range of health and safety disciplines. This would include the development, implementation and monitoring of S&H programmes that comply with all relevant laws, regulations and guidelines to minimize unsafe acts and conditions to drive a ZERO incident culture. Yo woud also be expected to assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of Corporate and Site S&H programmes, systems and procedures necessary to ensure the overall safety and health of employees and the community.

    Job Responsibilities

     

     

    • Carry out an active role in assessing site H&S risks and operational challenges developing appropriate risk reduction strategies, control measures,

     

    • Maintain and apply direct knowledge of SHE legislation in a manufacturing environment ensuring identification of S&H hazards and organisational compliance
    • Engaging, coaching contractors and employees to help drive a positive safety culture, provide support in the development, understanding and application of their behaviours

     

    • Inspect and audit the site, plant equipment and systems to ensure compliance with corporate and statutory requirements, recommending improvements in processes, design, procedures and operating equipment to minimize the hazardous potential
    • Conduct, lead and report on investigations of accidents, injuries and complaints concerning hazards or uncomfortable conditions in the workplace

     

    • Proactively develop and manage systems and procedures to ensure continued compliance with ISO and OHSAS standards

     

    • Continuously seek, propose and implement agreed H&S performance improvements.

     

    • Collect, analyze and evaluate and report out on S&H data to drive improvement

     

    • Develop and conduct employee training, contractor inductions, emergency preparedness

     

    • Risk Assessments, correct potential safety and health hazards

     

    Requirements

    CRITICAL COMPETENCIES:

    Technical

    • Demonstrated competence in Industrial Occupational Health (Safe Systems of work, Industrial Hygiene monitoring programmes, Risk Assessment, LOLER, COSHH, PUWER, CDM, Behavioural Safety, Human Factors).
    • Strong interpersonal skills (i.e. ability to consult over and redraft operational risk assessments and procedures and recommend improved safety processes and safe systems of work. Pro -active mentoring of risk through effective hazard ID, those at risk, possible control solutions prioritised action & worker involvement).
    • Planning, organization and problem -solving skills; analytical (the ability to balance regulatory requirements with operational demands)
    • Strong oral, written and presentation communication skills
    • Bachelor/University degree in safety, engineering, environmental sciences or related field.
    • NEBOSH diploma in Safety
    • Significant years industrial experience in Hazardous Process Industry such as Chemical, Oil & Gas, Steel, and Pharmaceutical.

    The Barry site is part of the Fumed Metal Oxide Business within the Performance Chemicals Segment of Cabot Corporation, and has an ‘over-the-fence’ relationship with Dow who is both a key supplier and customer. As a H & S Specialist you would be joining a highly effective SHEQ department and play an integral part in providing competent advice and guidance across the full remit of H&S issues on an operational plant.

     

    You would benefit from working Monday to Thursday core hours 0830 – 1645, and Friday 08:30 - 16:00.
