  • Position Summary

    Cabot Barry currently have a 12 month fixed term contract maternity cover vacancy for a highly effective Quality Engineer. As the successful candidate you will support and implement business driven quality initiatives through a Continuous Improvement process. In addition to this you will identify and drive continuous improvements in manufacturing process capability, capacity and product quality and business management systems. As the successful candidate you will ensure compliance with local, regional and corporate quality standards.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Support the monitoring and measurement processes on manufacturing site by tracking and continuously improving ability to track non- conformances and other key plant metrics (6 sigma limits, CpK, % OQ, lab technician test performance audit results)
    • Deliver updates and reports on the performance of the site against defined KPIs (e.g. relating to process capability, corrective actions through Non-Conformance reporting and the site audit programme).
    • Support and provide technical assistance, troubleshooting, customer complaints, data interpretation and problem solving efforts in QA and manufacturing functions.
    • Use base statistical tools and techniques (e.g. SPC and control charting) to analyse QA laboratory and manufacturing plant data
    • Support and improve quality systems by developing basic flowcharts from Standard Operating Procedures, updating work instructions.
    • Supports the site internal audit programmes by carrying out out quality audits (ISO series), compile audit check-sheets and audit reports, administering actions in the corrective action system.
    • Supports the Operations team and work closely with shift mangers/WPS engineers to develop monitoring and quality tracking within the WPS department, support WPS teams in making corrective action plans.
    • Take responsibility for any other reasonable duties as required by the individual’s direct line manager.

    Requirements

    CRITICAL COMPETENCIES:

     

    • Sound understanding, and application, of statistical methodologies and analytical tools and techniques.
    • Strong P.C. skills
    • Excellent critical reasoning skills.
    • Knowledge of total quality management systems, analytical techniques and quality tools.
    • B.Sc. Degree – Science/Engineering.
    • Consolidated and demonstrable experience in chemical process (preferably continuous) in related industry.
    • Experience in applying quality and statistical tools to improve manufacturing performance.

    The Barry site is part of the Fumed Metal Oxide Business within the Performance Chemicals Segment of Cabot Corporation, and has an ‘over-the-fence’ relationship with Dow who is both a key supplier and customer. As a Quality Engineer you would be joining a highly successful SHEQ team and play an integral part in providing quality systems and data analysis support striving for continuous improvement to an operational plant.

     

    You would benefit from working Monday to Thursday core hours 0830 – 1645, Friday 08:00 - 16:00 (consideration will be given to flexible working).
