  • Position Summary

    Obtains goods and services for multiple sites.  Works through established contracts for centrally sourced items and/or through the selection of vendors and suppliers for non-centrally sourced items.  May negotiate local contracts. Lead a small team of senior buyers and/or buyers responsible for multiple sites. The role reports to the Multisite Purchasing Manager.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Procures more complex, higher value items for multiple sites. Buys from established contracts in the case of centrally sourced items; sets up and manages bid requests for independently sourced items. Works with internal customers to identify understand and translate purchasing needs. Performs related purchasing activities, such as generation of documents, purchase orders and approving purchase orders within pre-established spending limits.
    • Identifies and implements most cost effective and efficient way to purchase small and/or local items.  Uses various methods and tools, such as procurement cards, and blanket orders to minimize cost and administrative time.  Coordinates implementation of all purchasing tools.
    • Fosters and maintains positive business relationships with vendors and users.
    • Ensures timely delivery of goods and services that meet quality, timing and price terms.  Resolves commercial conflicts and coordinates quality claims through Purchasing Managers, in the case of centrally managed suppliers, or directly with local suppliers as appropriate. Coordinates purchasing details with vendors and internal groups.
    • Provides training to others. Organizational structure may require Sr. Buyer to play a lead role at certain locations, providing work leadership and guidance to Purchasing staff. 
    • Coordinates work and tasks within the team. This includes managing the workload of the team, recruitment, onboarding and training newcomers, being the go to person/first escalation step for the team members, assuring alignment within the multisite organization and following up progress against targets and objectives of the team. Effectively practices Performance Based Management by coaching and developing employees and assures effective alignment with the matrix functions.
    • Partners with other areas of the Purchasing organization to identify opportunities, aggregate and standardize goods and services required. Act as other team member replacement when required and/or necessary.


    • Solid knowledge of Purchasing profession and chemical industry.  Strong knowledge of contract design.   Understanding of marketplace relating to goods and services purchased. General understanding of business issues and financial principles.
    • Knowledgeable of the markets and applications in which our products add value, and able to effectively capture the value.
    • The ability to engage in verbal and written communications that are direct, concise, clear and relevant and delivered in an appropriate manner.
    • Plans and prioritizes work, and effectively monitors progress to ensure information and deliverables are provided on a timely basis.
    • Applies analytical thinking to identify causes of and potential solutions to problems; is innovative in identifying new solutions.
    • The ability to work cooperatively with others on a team.  Taking actions that respect the needs and contributions of others; contributing to and accepting the consensus.
    • Personal willingness to be responsible for the outcome of your individual and your teams actions and the determination and know-how to ensure that results are achieved.
    • Developing direct reports’ skills and competencies through coaching and development opportunities.
    • Languages: Fluent in English and at east B2 level in one of other European language (German, Dutch, Italian or French).
