Cabot Barry currently has a vacancy for a development role of a Relief ShiftTechnician within the Operations team working closely with the Shift Teams to support periods of absence. The Relief Shift Technician will learn how to safely control the chemical processes on site, manage contractor and technician activities via the permit to work system, and troubleshoot process events and issues, and assign appropriate actions to ensure safety, health and environment standards, efficiency, quality, cost effectiveness, and customer satisfaction.

When fully trained the Operations Support Technician will:
Ø Takes responsibility for contributing both individually & to the team performance by contributing to the following site performance metrics whilst on shift: Safety (no actions which lead to injury or significant near miss of self or others), OQ (no actions taken outside defined procedures, which results in off-quality material). PSM (no actions taken outside defined procedures which results in process safety events). Permit compliance (no actions taken outside defined procedures, which results in breach of operating license).
Ø Takes ownership for the operation and monitoring of the process via the DCS control panel and takes actions and decisions to ensure process safety, environmental compliance and meeting customer expectations.
Ø Takes ownership for managing the safety of maintenance technicians, contractors and the integrity of the process by managing activities under the permit to work process, work authorization form and specialist permits, ensuring compliance with site standards, identification of hazards and ensuring appropriate controls are in place.
Ø Takes ownership of all necessary actions to ensure a safe work environment that adheres to site policies and requirements whilst taking care of other people.
Ø Takes responsibility for the reliability of the plant by ensuring assigned preventative maintenance activities are completed as per the weekly plan. Identifies and raises work orders and operates the process equipment to within agreed parameters.
Ø Takes ownership for customer satisfaction and uses all the available tools to ensure the customer’s quality requirements are met and appropriate decisions and process adjustments are made. Use of on-line SPC packages for key materials characteristics and key process variables to manage the processes according to given guidelines.
Ø Represents the process team in RCAs, FMEAs, PSSRs and HAZOPs etc. to support ongoing initiatives and ensure adequate consideration is given to decisions and conclusions that impact on or requirement input from the process team.
Ø For assigned area, takes responsibility for developing, updating and where necessary writing standard operating procedures and risk assessments covering process activities and tasks.
Ø Takes ownership for operating the FMO process following all relevant SOPs, Risk Assessments, and Grade Control Strategies, and using experience, knowledge and judgement to take appropriate decisions and actions.
Ø Takes ownership for completion of risk assessments, and risk assessment actions for assigned responsible area.
Ø Is responsible for raising incident reports and non-conformance reports as appropriate, ensuring all necessary information is recorded accurately and in sufficient detail to allow others to follow-up where necessary. Takes immediate actions necessary to ensure that any issue raised is dealt with appropriately.
Ø Takes Responsibility for the close-out of any assigned IR and NCR actions.
Ø Takes ownership for carrying out troubleshooting activities and following Response Flow Checklists in response to process deviations ensuring any issues are dealt with or escalated to the shift manager or other personnel where appropriate.
Ø Is responsible for delivering and maintaining 5S housekeeping standards in assigned area and gaining support from others (including contractors, maintenance personnel) to achieve and maintain this standard always. Also, to develop 5S programmes in areas not previously covered.
Ø Takes ownership for accurate and timely recording of all relevant data using shift logs, and other reporting systems.
Ø Takes ownership for delivery of identified Kaizen improvement actions and other manufacturing improvement opportunities either identified by the individual or assigned via the line manager.
Ø Take responsibility for any other reasonable duties as required by the individual’s direct line manager.
Ø Computer literacy: Microsoft office suite Excel, Word, Internet, etc. - Intermediate level
Ø DCS plant operation, mainframe business software and ASPEN – training provided
Ø Basic mechanical understanding (non-essential)
· SH&E training matrix
Ø Experienced in Chemical Process Operation - preferred
Ø GCSE level C or above in English, Maths, Science (Chemistry or Physics) – Essential
Ø City and Guild level 1 or 2 in Process Technology Chemical Processes or equivalent qualification is desirable
