  • Position Summary

    Together with the FMO Manufacturing Teams, develop, plan and lead a reliability engineering program that will deliver optimum uptime for the global manufacturing network, including loss elimination, risk management and life cycle asset management.  Work with the Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Quality and Technology functions to improve plant reliability.


    Promote a reliability focused culture that continuously questions current practices and looks for ways to improve, using a data driven mindset.  Foster effective cross functional and network communications to promote sharing best practices, knowledge and experience.


    Maintain the highest regard for SH&E and product quality. Ensure that operations are safe, comply with regulatory requirements and all Cabot standards and guidelines. Manage risk to achieve objectives in the areas of PSM, asset capability, quality and production.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Develop, implement and track leading and lagging reliability metrics that accurately reflect reliability goals and align with the reliability mission.
    • Identify reliability best practices in the manufacturing network. Ensure compliance with reliability processes, procedures and technical standards related to best practice. Collaborate with Global, Regional, and Facility Engineers to deliver new and optimize existing unit operations and systems.
    • Lead efforts to stream line maintenance effectiveness applying lean manufacturing tools like 5S, Wrench time Analyses, etc.
    • Define, develop, asses and refine an asset maintenance plan that includes value added preventive maintenance tasks and effective utilization of predictive and other non-destructive testing methodologies.
    • Use data analysis techniques, including 6 sigma, statistical analysis, and RCA to identify and isolate inherent reliability problems, and to improve reliability.
    • Provide reliability technology guidance and oversight for site reliability teams.
    • Work with project engineering to ensure reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations. Develop, implement and maintain major equipment engineering best practices and standards.
    • Guide efforts to ensure reliability and maintainability of design, equipment, processes, utilities, facilities, controls and safety/security systems. 
    • Oversee guidance and mentoring for the development of reliability engineering personnel
    • Provide leadership and education to ensure compliance with PSM and reliability programs
    • Provide leadership to CMMS structure, set-up and use including equipment tree, BOM’s, maintenance instructions and history tracking.


    • Thorough knowledge of PSM mechanical integrity requirements
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills
    • Thorough knowledge of reliability tools such as Reliability Centered Maintenance, preliminary hazards analysis, failure modes and effects analysis, criticality analysis, fault tree analysis, event tree analysis, etc.
    • Knowledge of equipment condition monitoring methods such as vibration monitoring, infrared thermography, lubrication analysis, etc.
    • Knowledge of Chemical Process Industry equipment including Rotating and static items in a range of exotic Materials of Construction such as Graphite, Glass lined, Plastic lined, Aluminum and exotic Alloys

    Education / Experience:

    • Fifteen (15) years’ chemical industry experience
    • Ten (10) years’ reliability engineering / management experience
    • BS degree in engineering preferably Mechanical or Chemical
    • Certification as a Maintenance and Reliability Professional preferred
    • Experienced in providing effective communication to management and other key stakeholders
    • Experienced in working with manufacturing sites and project teams
    • Strong analytical skills
    • Strong interpersonal skills
