  • Position Summary

    The General Ledger Manager will manage the General Ledger team within the EMEA Business Service Center (“BSC”), ensuring that the team support the Company’s consolidated financial reporting process in compliance with Cabot’s internal control framework. Lead the general ledger team in the timely and accurate recording of accounting transactions in the EMEA legal entity ledgers, as well as, the reconciliation between the ledgers and other financial systems. Support the collaboration between the general ledger team and site finance managers to effectively complete the month end closing process.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Actively contribute to the on-going design of business services center processes, both within the BSC and with the larger Cabot context (global standards) & implement according to the agreed plans.
    • Actively pursue and ensure the standardization of the established accounting practices (policies & procedures) across European reporting entities.
    • Manage monthly, quarterly and annual closing processes, including reporting to the European Entities & to Cabot Corporation, in compliance with Corporate accounting policies & local statutory requirements.
    • Manage the cash/banking system, including the payment processes.
    • Maintain a rigorous internal control environment including the reconciliation of all sub-systems, which will provide management with sound assurances that G/L transactions are accurate, complete and reliable.
    • Participate in the budget and forecast exercise by collecting and reporting the data in the G/L.
    • Establish key deliverables to populate the G/L scorecard to achieve the Continuous Improvement Process targets.
    • Ensure support is provided for the inventory transactions within the region. Manage the group to ensure regular reviews and control points, support for the schedulers in their daily operations, support for the cycle count or yearly inventory counts, and support for the various transactions that impact the inventory levels (purchase orders, sales orders, manufacturing work orders and adjustments).
    • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key related groups, specifically Plant Schedulers, Local Finance Managers, Internal Controls and External Reporting.
    • Ensure high performance of the team in terms of quality and efficiency, through Performance Based Management, including appropriate training, coaching, delegation and motivation.
    • Develop and maintain a culture that supports Cabot Values, team work, and high SH&E standards.
    • Ensure compliance with all policies, procedures and standard business practices, as they pertain to BSC, including internal control procedures and Sarbanes-Oxley regulations.

     

    Requirements

    • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and global Cabot standards.
    • Good understanding of how different functions, activities and processes interact within an organization.
    • Solid proficiency in finance & accounting, including sound knowledge of the relevant processes, as well as a good understanding of ERP systems in general.
    • Demonstrated capability to find the balance toward "Excellence", i.e take good decisions, based on sound analysis and judgment, and execute them; actively participate in, influence decisions outside direct area of activity.
    • Management and organization skills: establishes and communicates clear priorities, directions and objectives; deals with problems firmly and in a timely manner; delegates appropriately, coaches & develops, demonstrates empathy and cares about people.
    • Excellent problem solving skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the aptitude to impact and influence all levels of employees and management. 
    • University degree or equivalent qualification in finance or accounting.
    • 7+ years professional experience in several areas of accounting, preferably in a multinational manufacturing environment.
    • Experience in dealing with multinational diversified legal entities.
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a managerial role, including people management.
