  • Position Summary

    Cabot Barry, situated in the Vale of Glamorgan, currently has a vacancy for a senior manager position of Engineering & Technical Manager. This is a key strategic role for the site as a  member of the site leadership team. The Engineering & Technical Manager will lead the Engineering & Technical function to provide both short term and long term technical solutions to meet the needs of Chemical Manufacturing site and long-range business plans. The successful candidate will report directly to the General Manager and will carry responsibility for a team of specialist functional heads supporting the wide ranging technical aspects of operations and projects, ensuring that standards are maintained and that process efficiency and plant availability are maximised. As the successful candidate you will also drive the Continuous Improvement programme which continuously addresses plant upgrades and improvement initiatives. A key focus will be to mentor, lead, motivate, create and sustain a high performing team. The future prospects for this role are fuelled by the significant ongoing investment programme and the dominant market share held by this business together with the international spread of the parent group which has numerous other facilities and international interests. Cabot Barry are looking to appoint an individual on an upward trajectory in their career and have the ability to match their ambition which will be to work at a site general manager or a senior group technical role in the future. 

    Job Responsibilities

    • People – develops and leads a High Performing team of Engineers across Process, Project, Reliability and EC&I disciplines.
    • Process Safety Management – Develops, Implements and Manages the PSM programs for the site ensuring continued Safety and Environmental performance of the operations and compliance with both Cabot and Regulatory requirement.
    • Capital Plan – Develops, Manages and Implements the Site Capital Long Range Plan, Annual Capital Budget and Forecast to support continued operation of the site, improvements in process technology and to meet future business and regulatory needs.
    • Capital Projects – ensures that capital projects are developed and implemented with robust business cases and appropriate technical solutions to meet the needs of the site and business.
    • Reliability – drives continuous improvement in OEE performance through reliability programs and process or equipment design improvement to rotating equipment, instrumentation, control systems and static equipment.
    • Process Engineering – Develops, Manages and Implements the Engineering standards for the site and provides expert knowledge of process and equipment technology to the
    • Production, Maintenance and Capital Project functions.
    • Troubleshooting – Provides detailed structured technical investigation to process, equipment and product problems.
    • Budget – develops and manages the Engineering & Technical budget for the site.
    • IT – Manages and Implements both the business and manufacturing IT systems for the site.
    • Site Leadership Team – as part of the Site Leadership Team, develop and implement long range strategy, action plans and objectives to drive future performance of the site.
    • Emergency Response Team – Acts as the On-Call Manager and responds to Emergency Incidents at the site when scheduled to do so.
    • FMO Network – Collaborates with the other Manufacturing Sites and Functions within the FMO network to continual improve performance and meet the needs of the Global Business.
    • Take responsibility for any reasonable duties as required by the individuals’ direct line manager.

    Requirements

    CRITICAL COMPETENCIES:

     

    Technical

    • Detailed practical knowledge of Chemical Process Engineering Standards; Project Management and Reliability programs.
    • Excellent knowledge of continuous improvement, problem solving and analytical tools / techniques.
    • Highly analytical and data driven.
    • Strong Process Safety Management experience.
    • Behavioural/Managerial
    • Highly Self-motivated, with a drive for results.
    • Able to manage multiple and sometimes conflicting priorities in a calm and logical style. Collaborative and Empowering style with others.
    • Effective communicator at all levels.
    • Excellent People Leader able to engage at all levels.

     

    Education/Experience

    • Degree (BEng / BSc) in Chemical Engineering essential, Master’s Degree in Engineering or Business preferred.
    • 10+ Years of Chemical Manufacturing experience preferably of both Batch and Continuous Processes gained within a Global Business.
    • Extensive hands on Process and Project engineering experience.
    • PSM Certified – with significant industry experience of HAZOP / PHA, LOPA, SIL, DSEAR, Mechanical Integrity and Management of Change programs. COMAH experience preferred. Lean Six Sigma qualified – black belt preferred.
