Our location in Barry (Sully, Vale of Glamorgan) has been established in 1992 as a manufacturing site producing hydrophilic and treated Fumed Silica.

     

    We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Technician to join our Maintenance Department. The successful candidate will be a strong team worker with excellent communications skills and a continuous improvement mindset. This role sits in a larger team of both Mechanical and I&E technicians and is expected to take ownership of the mechanical equipment on site to ensure equipment is maintained at its optimum performance. The successful candidate would be expected to provide 24hr maintenance cover as part of an on-call roster. We are looking for someone who will display an aptitude for problem solving in their area of expertise, plus always think of safety first and work in a safe manner at all times.

    The working schedule is Monday to Thursday: 07:00-15:15, Friday: 07:00-14:30 (this includes a 30-minute meal break).

    Job Responsibilities

    • Responsible for the regular, preventative and emergency maintenance of mechanical equipment identified in a specific plant area to include leading small improvement teams.
    • Trouble shoot through the resolution of problems using process databases in a timely fashion to minimize production losses, whilst maintaining health, safety and environmental standards at all times.
    • Accurate historical record keeping of equipment using the computerised maintenance management system (CMMS).
    • Define and develop the work method statements, risk assessments and preventative maintenance programmes with the team, ensuring strict adherence to the site permit to work systems.
    • Once fully trained, take ownership of self-supervision and supervision of contractors including leading small teams of contractors of a similar discipline at plant shut down events.
    • Plan and organise work so that relevant equipment is available when required in order that a defined work schedule can be completed.
    • Manage the testing of equipment system to ensure timely calibration and replacement of equipment.
    • Responsible for excellent communication with Engineering contractor to aid with project improvements to include technical support; manufacturers reps to provide quotes for equipment purchase/improvement & to aid fault resolution.
    • Provide technical support to the Stores Manager on specific equipment enquiries.
    • Drive to excellence through contribution in numerous site initiatives and engineering meetings that are aiming to enhance reliability and continuous improvement of the production plant and equipment.
    • Support colleagues within other maintenance disciplines.

    Requirements

    • Hold a recognized Engineering Apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline;
    • Hold relevant technical qualifications such as ONC/HNC/NVQ/C&G in relevant engineering discipline;
    • Hands on experience in medium to heavy industry (ideally on Chemical plants);
    • Hands-on experience with pumps, compressors, pipelines, boilers, vessels, exchangers;
    • Thorough knowledge in maintaining and analysing rotating equipment using techniques such as VA, thermography and acoustic systems;
    • Knowledge of welding, pipelines, and steel structures, plus GRP systems would be an advantage including non-destructive testing practices;
    • Technically competent to perform tasks that include general fitting, welding, rigging, pipe fitting, lifting techniques;
    • Ability to interrogate relevant data stored in site systems to aid trouble shooting;
    • Experience of working on pressure systems,
    • Ability to assess and develop risk assessments and method statements.

    • An attractive salary package for the right candidate of £32k - £41k basic is available depending on experience, plus up to £3k for on call and shift allowances including an attractive premium payment overtime system. The successful candidate would also be eligible for an annual bonus award.
