  • Position Summary

    Provide senior level analysis and technical expertise to department and site managers in wide range of environmental, health and safety disciplines.  SH&E disciplines include:   toxicology, environmental compliance, regulatory affairs, industrial hygiene, etc.  Develop, implement and monitor SH& E programs that comply with all relevant laws, regulations and guidelines and minimize unsafe acts and conditions in the workplace.  Act as technical resource in area of specialty.  Advise management of policies and standards, and compile pertinent information for reporting

    Job Responsibilities

    • Develop, implement, and monitor SH&E compliance programs, including toxicological or global environmental compliance programs.
    • Collect, evaluate and analyze SH&E data to manage SH&E information. Monitor and track safety and health performance.  Create and/or run reports for distribution to management or oversee management reporting.  Prepare reports and recommend corrective action.
    • Monitor and prevent chemical, physical, biological hazards and diseases that could be in the workplace. Monitor air, land, and water pollution levels.
    • Conduct and lead investigations of accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards or uncomfortable conditions in the workplace. Advise on appropriate corrective action.  Conduct SH&E inspections, meetings and follow-up.
    • Collaborate with employees and supervisors to identify and correct potential safety and health hazards. Recommend improvements in processes, design, procedures and operating equipment to minimize the hazardous potential.
    • Track and monitor existing and pending regulations and make strategic recommendations and lead advocacy efforts. Ensure awareness of all applicable laws and regulations by maintaining a close liaison with relevant regulatory officials.
    • Provide regulatory interpretation and technical advice to regional staff and facilities in assessing and achieving compliance in areas relevant own area of expertise (i.e. air emission monitoring, hazardous waste, non-hazardous solid waste, industrial wastewater, storm water, toxicology, etc.
    • Advise and provide technical support to regional staff and facilities in obtaining licenses and permits. Support evaluation and implementation of facility modifications and expansions and construction of new facilities
    • Support evaluation of new product lines by reviewing new products, equipment, and processes for potential hazards and recommends modifications before introduction. Participate in developing corrective measures.
    • Conduct comprehensive compliance assurance reviews of SH&E policies and procedures. Ensure that all plant activities are conducted in a safe and productive manner.  Provide assistance in assessing and achieving Corporate SH&E goals and objectives.
    • Develop and conduct employee training, emergency preparedness and quality assurance programs.
    • Actively participate on external and internal committees and teams, such as product stewardship, product defense and/or environmental regulatory matters.
    • Represent Cabot Corporation on external trade and scientific associations.
    • Maintains expert knowledge of specific requirements imposed government agencies. Acts as lead person or technical expert providing functional direction and training in application of the occupational health and safety programs.

    Requirements

    • Demonstrated technical competence in specialty area
    • Planning, organization and problem solving skills; oral and written communication skills; data management
    • Bachelor/University degree in engineering or applicable science; advanced degree & certification preferred.
    • Minimum five years experience in relevant area of specialization.
