  • Position Summary

    Cabot Barry currently has a vacancy for an Assistant Finance Manager. The UK Finance team is primarily responsible for the financial reporting (US GAAP and local/statutory) of Cabot Carbon Ltd (Tolling manufacturer), Cabot Performance Material UK (Sales & Marketing) and 8 UK holding companies. The Assistant Finance Manager will support the UK Finance Manager in ensuring that all finance, tax and accounting records are compliant with both US and local UK GAAP, including but not limited to:

    • Statutory Accounting, Tax Returns for Group, VAT accounting;
    • Business management accounting;
    • Budgeting and forecasting;
    • Sarbannes Oxley (SOX), internal control, company internal and external audit.

    As a key member of the UK Finance team the Assistant Finance Manager will work closely with the UK Finance Manager to support the business unit leaders, liaise with external bodies such as HMRC, National Statistics Office, external consultants such as Auditors and Tax Advisers. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a high level of accuracy with a detail oriented approach. Exceptional technical financial skills with an analytical and critical thinking mindset are prerequisite.     Job Responsibilities

    • Day to day responsibility for the accounting and financial activities in respect of specific entities and the holding companies.
    • Will liaise with the shared service centre functions as required to ensure that all General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Treasury, purchasing transactions are correctly recorded, compliant and in accordance with Cabot’s global standards and generally-accepted accounting principles (US GAAP).
    • Support the UK Finance Manager on accounting and financial analysis activities for all required entities.
    • Lead the process for UK entities Statutory Accounts preparation & UK Group CT reporting, PAYE and associated payroll reporting, VAT submissions.
    • Assist with statutory and internal audits in preparing supporting documentation, liaising with key external stakeholders, along with site / company personnel as needed.
    • Review internal control (SOX) matrix annually in conjunction with the UK Finance Manager.
    • Complete and review internal controls and balance sheet reconciliations as required i.e. monthly, quarterly, annually.
    • Analysis of any financial issues concerning the closing process and or accuracy of the data recorded.
    • Production of the management reviews for specific entities and the holding companies to include; completion of analytical reviews of revenue, cost of sales expenses for reasonableness; perform actual to budget / forecast analysis of other income statement accounts.
    • Annual budget planning and forecasting cycles; to include, leading the budget and forecasting cycle in respect of specific entity and the holding companies.
    • Assist with the budget and forecasting cycle of specific entities.
    • Deputise for the UK Finance Manager as required.


    • Ability to make decisions and take initiative in the absence of perfect information.
    • Ability to build trust and gain support of personnel across organization.
    • Ability to communicate (verbal and written) effectively across all departments (finance and non-finance).
    • Ability to respond to issues quickly and effectively.
    • Accuracy and attention to detail but also ability to see the ‘big picture’.
    • Advanced PC skills in financial applications / Microsoft Office & ERP systems (Oracle JDE preferred).
    • Critical thinking and willingness to take initiative.


    • University degree in Accounting/Finance. Professional Accounting Qualification preferred CIMA ACCA ICAEW
    • Proficient knowledge of UK and US GAAP.
    • Knowledge of UK Tax group accounting.
    • Significant experience in financial and tax accounting, preferably in an international manufacturing environment.
    • Group Tax and Statutory Account preparation within a UK group manufacturing environment desirable.
